Service Fees
Our primary mission is to serve the student population at Â鶹´«Ã½Mānoa (UHM). However, services are also available to students from other campuses in the Â鶹´«Ã½system. Urgent care medical services are provided to UHM Faculty and staff.
The UHSM is supported by three funding sources: university funds, student health fee, (see Student Health Fee), and fee-for-service.
Our service fee schedule is based on standard medical practice codes. The UHSM fees are generally lower than those in the private sector. A patient's charge (or co-payment) is determined by the terms of their health insurance coverage and their specific patient classification.
Our primary goal is to keep out-of-pocket costs minimal and affordable for students. As a result, the revenue generated is insufficient to cover UHSM's total operating expenses and is not anticipated to do so.
Charges, Co-Payments, and Statements
- All charges and co-payments are due at the time of service.
- Insurance claim is submitted, and reimbursement credited toward the charges.
- If an insurance plan does not cover the services rendered, the patient will be billed the outstanding amount. In the case of non-students, statements will be sent for the co-payments.
- Statements will be sent to those with outstanding balances.
- An academic hold will be placed on the student's record for any outstanding amounts.
Eligibility and Categories
- Fee-Paying UHM Students: Students who have paid the Student Health Fee are eligible for all services. If you have a participating health insurance plan, we will submit a claim for reimbursement. Students without a participating plan or insurance coverage are charged a discounted fee-for-service, subsidized by the health fee.
- Special UHM Programs:Â Students in programs that do not require the Student Health Fee are charged according to the regular fee schedule, with balance billing for insurance co-payments.
- Students from Other Â鶹´«Ã½System Campuses: Students from other campuses may use UHSM services. A surcharge (currently $50) is applied to the first and second visits of each semester.
