Overview
The University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½ at Hilo's Imiloa Astronomy Center is a 40,000 square foot facility for astronomical research. The center has been open to the public since 2006 and hosts educational exhibits about astrology and Native Âé¶¹´«Ã½an culture. The building site also features a planetarium and cafe for visitors as well as a native garden.
The project became LEED certified in 2007 and features stormwater management elements and water-efficient landscaping. The building incorporated recycled content sourced local construction materials and utilizes low-emitting materials. The design also monitors the building's interior for ideal human thermal comfort.
