The University of Hawai‘i (UH) is committed to advancing sustainability across its campuses through strategic initiatives, responsible resource management, and institutional policies that align with global sustainability goals. This Sustainability Annual Report highlights the progress made in operations, focusing on key areas such as energy efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, sustainable purchasing, waste minimization, and transportation improvements.
In 2025, Â鶹´«Ã½continued to build upon its commitment as outlined in the Â鶹´«Ã½Sustainability Policy (EP 4.202), emphasizing the integration of sustainability into decision-making, operations, and educational initiatives. This report provides an overview of achievements, challenges, and opportunities in advancing sustainability within campus operations
Highlights
Energy
We’re working to meet or exceed energy efficiency and renewable energy targets based on a 2008 baseline. By upgrading systems, cutting waste, and expanding solar power, we’re moving toward a more sustainable, low-carbon campus.
Buildings & Grounds
All new construction and major renovations to achieve at least LEED Silver certification, with a goal of LEED Gold whenever possible, reducing energy use and reliance on fossil fuels.

Significant reductions in water costs have been achieved over recent years. This decrease reflects the successful implementation of conservation measures and efficient water management practices.
