Ike Lea Science Building Maui – LEED Gold

Overview

The University of Hawai'i Ike Le'a Science facility is located on the Âé¶¹´«Ã½Maui College Campus. The facility is a one-story, concrete and steel building which stands 45-feet tall and is 32,000 square feet located on Maui. The building houses laboratories for the sciences including Physics, Astronomy, Optics, Marine Sciences, Microbiology, Anatomy/Physiology/Human Biology and Chemistry. The building also features an independent, roof-retracting teaching astronomy observatory and a 120 seat auditorium and lecture-style classroom.

The project earned the LEED Gold rating by incorporating renewable and sustainable strategies such as the installation of green roofs, photovoltaic panels, and vertical axis wind micro-turbines, installation of energy efficient HVAC and lighting systems, utilizing natural daylighting, and many more.
