Elevator Modernization Project – 2016 Phase III Efficiency Upgrades

Energy Conserved ~5,997 kWh/year

Elevators are in constant use and require maintenance and often replacement. Several elevators around campus have been replaced as part of a larger, ongoing Elevator Modernization Project.

The full scope of the Elevator Modernization project is being delivered in 4 phases and modernizes all the elevators in 30 buildings across campus.

The Modernization scope includes installing new elevator cabs, replacement of mechanical systems, electrical systems, and key card access control systems.

Improved controls reduces wait time and regen systems provide power back to the building when elevators go down. The modern elevators are computer controlled and require   clean steady power and cool dry environmental conditions to operate reliably.  Thus, high efficiency split air conditioning systems were installed to cool the control computers.   Unfortunately, no efficiency is attributed to the regen nor the lowered energy consumption of the improved systems.  But some were credited against the high SEER split HVAC units.
