A standout volleyball player ending her career and a freshman basketball player just starting his are the University of Â鶹´«Ã½ at Hilo Pepsi Athletes of the Week.
Senior middle blocker Ashton Jessee wrapped up her excellent UH Hilo career with a big output on Senior Night against Â鶹´«Ã½ Pacific University. The Anchorage native tallied five service aces, nine kills and six block assists in the four-set win over the Sharks. For the weekend, she totaled 14 kills, six aces and seven block assists. The 6-foot-3 fifth-year Vulcan wraps up her career ranked third all-time on the UH Hilo list for total blocks with 415.
Freshman Donald McHenry scored a career-high 26 points to help his team knock off region foe Alaska Anchorage, 75-72. The left-hander from Milwaukee scored 26 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field, including 2-of-4 from three-point range. He scored 16 of his points in the second half as the Vulcans held off the Seawolves to improve to 4-0 for the first time since 2005.
