
University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½ President Wendy Hensel highlighted the start of the 2026–27 academic year, UH¡¯s second-highest extramural funding total in history and the leadership transition at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Community College during her August report to the UH Board of Regents (BOR). The report was delivered at the August 20 BOR meeting at Kauaʻi Community College.
Hensel reported that UH secured $647.3 million in extramural funding in fiscal year 2026, the second-highest total in university history and the fifth consecutive year above $500 million. She also provided an update on the leadership transition at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ CC, where Interim Vice President for Community Colleges and UH Maui College Chancellor Lui Hokoana is serving as interim chancellor while UH prepares an interim chancellor for the campus and the launch of a national search for a permanent leader.
Hensel also highlighted UH¡¯s inaugural AI Institute Day, which brought together 546 participants from across the UH System on August 11, and the launch of the ¡¯Bows Athletics Club and Shoji Society, two new initiatives designed to strengthen annual and transformational giving to UH ²Ñ¨¡²Ô´Ç²¹ Athletics.

Finally, Kauaʻi CC¡¯s Justin Seto was recognized with the UH President¡¯s Award for Excellence in Building and Grounds Maintenance for his dedication, technical expertise and “campus-first” approach.
