The publicly available database lists 100,000 top scientists, classified into 22 scientific fields and 176 subfields. Using multiple citation-based indicators, the list provides standardized information on citations, h-index, coauthorship-adjusted hm-index, citations to peers in different authorship positions, and a composite indicator. The study runs its composite indicator formula against the entire Scopus database from 1996 to 2019. The listing was updated in 2020 to include the top 2% of scholars worldwide, listing 159,683 authors.
