University of 鶹ý at Mānoa men’s swimmer Karol Ostrowski set two new program records at the 2026 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships at Georgia Tech’s McAuley Aquatic Center.

Ostrowski shattered the Rainbow Warrior record in the 100-yard backstroke with a blazing time of 45.96 seconds on March 27, winning the first heat and finishing 39th overall. The mark eclipses his previous personal best of 47.06 seconds, set at last season’s Big West Championships.

On March 28, Ostrowski had another record-setting performance in the 100 meter freestyle with a swift time of 42.08, which resulted in a Heat 1 victory and 30th overall finish in the preliminaries. He improved his previous best time of 42.31—set at last year’s NCAA Championships—and teammate Finn Brophy’s former record of 42.26.

Ostrowski concludes his collegiate career now holding four individual school records in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, and 100 backstroke—the most in program history. He is one of the Rainbow Warriors’ most decorated swimmers of all-time.

Also representing UH Mānoa at the NCAA Championships were Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo and Tom Thalau.

Tamayo capped his outstanding season in the 3-meter dive, where he finished 43rd with a preliminary score of 296.10. His top dive of the day—a forward 3 ½ somersault—earned a score of 65.10.

Thalau made his NCAA Division I Championships debut, placing 32nd in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:45.38. His qualifying time of 1:43.93 and his NCAA performance stand as the two fastest marks in the Big West this season.

The University of 鶹ý at Mānoa delivered a dominant showing at the Big West Championships, sweeping the men’s and women’s team titles and capturing eight major conference awards, announced by the league on February 20.

Coach of the Year

In his second season leading the program, Head Coach Steve Allnutt was named both Big West Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year after guiding the Rainbow Warriors and Wahine to conference crowns. The men scored 780 points with 22 podium finishes, including 12 gold medals, while the women scored 798 points with 20 medal performances and six event victories. The sweep marked the fourth time in program history that both teams claimed conference titles in the same season.

Allnutt also coached three swimmers to NCAA automatic qualifying standards and oversaw three Big West record-breaking swims. His dual honor is the 12th overall coaching award in program history and the fourth time a 鶹ý coach has earned Coach of the Year for both squads in the same season.

Men’s Swimmer of the Year

Leading the way in swimming was Karol Ostrowski, who was named Big West Men’s Swimmer of the Year for the first time. Ostrowski recorded seven podium finishes, winning six gold medals. He posted NCAA automatic qualifying times in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 back, breaking his own conference record in the 100 free. He becomes 鶹ý’s first conference swimmer of the year since 2020.

Diving Coach of the Year

Diving coach Brandon Blaisdell also swept the Men’s and Women’s Diving Coach of the Year awards for the second straight season. Under his direction, Rainbow divers swept the diving competition at the championships, combining for five gold, four silver and five bronze medals, along with three conference records.

Women’s Diver of the Year

Macie Wheeler successfully defended her Women’s Diver of the Year title, winning the 1-meter and 3-meter events and setting a Big West record in the 1-meter. Freshmen Keira Chandler and Oliver Wignall claimed the conference’s Freshman Diver of the Year honors on the women’s and men’s sides, respectively.

Overall, the team placed 27 student-athletes on the All-Big West team for a combined 69 all-conference honors. The Rainbow Warriors accounted for 12 selections and 37 honors, while the Rainbow Wahine added 15 members and 32 honors, capping a historic championship performance for the program.
