The 3rd Annual , jointly sponsored by (PKU) and the in the College of Social Sciences (CSS) at the?University of Â鶹´«Ã½ at Mānoa, was recently held at PKU in Beijing, China. Themed, Politics, Economics and Diplomacy through Media Dialogue, the event attracted more than 150 media experts and scholars, journalists and community leaders from both countries. This year’s forum focused on the media’s role in building a new model of increased mutual trust and communication between U.S. and Chinese media.
UH Mānoa and Honolulu community leaders invited to participate in the symposium included: CSS Dean , Matsunaga Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution Director of Community Outreach and Global Learning , Professor , Associate Professor and Jeffrey Lau, Honolulu lawyer, businessman and former president of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Â鶹´«Ã½. The group covered topics ranging from messages of peace and personal experiences with China to the challenges of global media ethics and presidential agenda-building and policy making. Konan and Lau were also interviewed on-air by CCTV/News Dialogue anchor Yang Rui regarding Sino-U.S. trade and economic relations.
The event in Beijing is the third in a series hosted in partnership between UH Mānoa and PKU. The series is designed to build bridges and improve understanding between the U.S. and China. In 2017, the forum series will return to the UH Mānoa campus.
