"Check what credits you need for your transfer program. You might be missing some credits that you could get before going to university. This helps you save money and avoid credit problems. If you're distance education, there might be some 100-200 level classes that you cannot take online. Take advantage of the automatic admission system. It's amazing, I had no fuss or problems with it. I just went through the steps, and I was a West Oahu student. I did not have to apply or write a cover letter. I'd advise you to talk to your counselor before transferring."

From STEM peer tutoring and mentoring to the Ka‘ie‘ie program to the UPASS and laptop loans, these campus resources are basically "free.” There are incredible resources within the University of Hawai‘i System that your school tuition and fees already pay for. Learning this early at Kapi‘olani Community College, before I transferred to the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, made my journey both personally enriching and financially accessible. Learn about the resources available to you and use them now!

First, connect with your student services specialist to help navigate the transfer process.
Second, take advantage of opportunities—these can open doors you didn’t even know existed.
Third, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Lean on your advisors, success coaches, and student services; they are there to support you.
Finally, believe that it’s possible. Even if it feels overwhelming at first, transferring and finishing your degree is achievable, especially with distance learning options.

My tip for other students is to be prepared, plan ahead, and to stay organized. My recommendation is to stay in touch with your department counselor and follow the plan. Your counselors can help you in the right direction and make sure you're taking the right classes that will transfer over. It is also important to ask questions when you don't understand something, don't wait till the last minute to ask. In addition, stay on top of deadlines and use a system that works for you. Follow deadlines, requirements, and the necessary paperwork to make the process smoother. Finally, give yourself a break and do some self-care. Going to college is tough alone, having to work and do other things your life brings you can be tough.

If you’re thinking about transferring, my biggest advice is to take full advantage of the resources available through the �鶹��ýsystem. There are so many tools and support services designed to help you succeed—don’t hesitate to use them.

It’s also important to build strong relationships with your academic advisor and your professors. Your advisor can help guide your path, while your professors can offer valuable insight and real-world perspective that can shape your decisions in meaningful ways.

Most importantly, be proactive. Don’t wait until the last minute to ask questions or make a plan. Stay organized, communicate often, and take ownership of your journey. The more effort you put in early, the more it will pay off as you move closer to achieving your degree and your goals.

My best advice is to start the transfer process early and stay in contact with your transfer counsellor. They can help you with declaring your major as early as possible. Declaring allows you to streamline registering for classes within your degree. Also, attend new student orientations so you can meet people and make more friends.
