The (BOR) honored four departing members in resolutions recognizing their service to the university during a special meeting on July 2.

Regents Joshua Faumuina, William “Bill” Haning III, Wayne Higaki and Diane Paloma were honored for their leadership and contributions to the during their time on the board.

Joshua Faumuina

Appointed as student regent in 2024, Faumuina became the first student regent elected as a board officer, serving as second vice chair. A graduate of Kapiʻolani Community College, UH ²Ñ¨¡²Ô´Ç²¹ and the William S. Richardson School of Law, he also mentored STEM students, supported community college initiatives and provided pro bono legal assistance.

William “Bill” Haning III

An Oʻahu regent appointed in 2021, Haning brought decades of experience in medicine, education and military service. An emeritus professor of psychiatry at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, he chaired the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee and served as vice chair of the Research and Innovation and Student Success committees.

Wayne Higaki

Higaki concluded one of the board’s longest tenures after first being appointed in 2014 to represent Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Island. He served two terms as board vice chair and chaired both the Budget and Finance and Independent Audit committees.

Diane Paloma

Appointed in 2021, Paloma brought extensive healthcare and nonprofit leadership experience to the board. She chaired the Budget and Finance and Kuleana committees and served as vice chair of the Planning and Facilities Committee.

The resolutions express the Board of Regents’ gratitude for each regent’s dedicated service and lasting contributions to the university and the state.
