announced a new, streamlined approach to fundraising and Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) support, introducing four initiatives to strengthen student-athlete resources, boost competitive recruitment and retainment, and improve community engagement.
“What we really want to focus on is how to retain and recruit elite student-athletes, so that we can have outstanding outcomes for our state and our entire community,” said Athletics Director Matt Elliott. “We are so grateful to be part of such a supportive community here in Â鶹´«Ã½. Whether fans are cheering in the stands, watching from home, or donating directly—it truly makes a difference.”
The department introduced two tax-deductible direct-giving opportunities. The will support essential operations such as travel, nutrition and student-athlete health, while the (Institutional NIL) will aid recruitment, retention and scholarship support for athletes. Donors can choose to contribute at the department level or designate gifts to specific teams.
Two additional avenues focus on engagement. partnerships will allow local businesses and individuals to work directly with student-athletes through , expanding opportunities across sports. A new comprehensive for 2025–26 will also connect the community with fundraising and outreach events throughout the year.
“NIL has been an incredible opportunity for me to connect with the Â鶹´«Ã½ community,” said Rainbow Warrior football quarterback Micah Alejado. “Working with local businesses has taught me so much about leadership and representing Â鶹´«Ã½ in a positive way. I¡¯m truly grateful for the opportunity to show a little bit of my personality and who I am as a student-athlete.”
As the NIL strategy is implemented, coaches also say its impact goes far beyond financial opportunities.
“When I recruit, I¡¯m transparent about the financial support we can offer, but I always lead with what truly sets us apart—our commitment to player development and the strong culture at UH Athletics,” said Rainbow Wahine basketball head coach Laura Beeman. “Having the chance to play for Â鶹´«Ã½ is special.”
The department also released updated details on , including tax information, to support donors finalizing 2025 contributions.
