University of Â鶹´«Ã½ at Hilo player Nadjrick Peat was named PacWest Defender of the Week. Peat has won the award before, usually for his rebounding and shot blocking numbers, but he got the nod this time for spearheading the team¡¯s defense.
The UH Hilo men¡¯s basketball team won its two final home games of the regular season—a 82-68 win over Holy Names University on February 8 and a 74-65 victory over Fresno Pacific University on February 11—to improve its overall record to 16-5 and 12-4 in the PacWest.
“He is our defensive anchor,” UH Hilo Coach Kaniela Aiona said. “He is the human eraser. For as many blocks as he gets, he changes twice as many shots. Against Fresno for example, he erased two dunks and even took a charge.”
Peat leads the PacWest in blocks (2.7 per game) and lists sixth nationally. He also ranks third nationally in dunks made.
UH Hilo will head on the road for four games to end its regular season before the PacWest Championships at Chaminade University¡¯s McCabe Gymnasium in Honolulu, March 2–4.
