The ranks as one of the nation¡¯s most diverse colleges and universities, according to the . UH ²Ñ¨¡²Ô´Ç²¹ came in eighth in the ranking, which is based on higher education campuses where undergraduates are most likely to encounter students from a different racial or ethnic background. There are more than 3,000 colleges and universities in the United States.

“When we draw from a vast array of diverse backgrounds and life experiences, we have a more creative community,” said Michael Bruno, provost for the university¡¯s flagship campus. “We continue to seek new ways in which we can leverage that diversity to inform and enhance student academic success, growth and development. Diversity is a measurement of success as well as a driver of success.”

Data was drawn from each institution¡¯s fall 2017 total undergraduate student body. The ethnic categories used in the calculations are non-Hispanic African-American, Hispanic, American Indian, Pacific Islander/Native Hawaiian, Asian, non-Hispanic white and multiracial (two or more races). The proportion of minority students, excluding international students, and an overall mix of groups, were also considered in the ranking.
