Children enjoy the chance to interact with marine critters at touch-tanks

The 5th annual will be on Saturday, February 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½ at Hilo’s Pacific Aquaculture and Coastal Resources Center in Keaukaha.

The event raises public awareness of the impact people have on the ocean environment, promotes conservation of ocean and coastal resources in a culturally sensitive way and communicates the outcomes of current ocean and coastal research, management and education efforts in Âé¶¹´«Ã½.

  • Informational booths—UH Hilo Marine Science and Âé¶¹´«Ã½ IMUA III EPSCoR researchers, the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Division of Aquatic Resources, Marine Mammal Response Network, Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Island Hawksbill Monitoring Project, NOAAʻs Mokupapapa Discovery Center and more
  • Tours of PACRC
  • Family friendly activities including remote operated underwater vehicles, fishing games, touch tanks, face painting and poi pounding
  • Live music
  • Food booths

Ocean Day is hosted by PACRC in partnership with the UH Hilo Student Association, EPSCoR Âé¶¹´«Ã½ IMUA III and the University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Sea Grant.
