Visa Interview Availability Update -May 29 DOS Press Briefing

(Email sent 5/30/2025 at approximately 1:00pm to ISS International Students)

Dear International Students,

We¡¯re writing to share updates from the??regarding student visa interviews. The State Department confirmed that visa applications are still being accepted and that all applicants continue to undergo the standard two-step vetting process: submitting the DS-160 application and attending an in-person interview. While the scheduling of new visa interviews is currently paused – pending guidance on expanded social media vetting – DOS officials indicated they expect the pause to last a matter of days, not weeks or months.

If you haven’t yet submitted your DS-160 visa application, you should do so as soon as possible.

If you have submitted your application but do not yet have an appointment for an interview, you should frequently check the official website of the U.S. embassy or consulate in your country for the latest updates on visa interview scheduling. Interview slots can open and fill quickly.

If you have an interview appointment, you should by all means keep that appointment.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and share updates as they become available. For questions or support, please contact International Student Services at?issmanoa@hawaii.edu

Warm regards,
International Student Services
