Place-Based Book Club on Kaiāulu: Gathering Tides
April 14, 2:00pm - 3:30pmMānoa Campus, Kuykendall 106 Events Room
The OFDAS Center for Teaching Excellence invites faculty and staff to join the Place-Based Book Club in Fall 2025, featuring Kaiāulu: Gathering Tides.
Based on two decades of interviews with more than sixty Hawaiian elders, leaders, and fisher men and women, Kaiāulu shares stories of enduring community efforts to perpetuate kuleana. Kaiāulu is the author Mehana Blaich Vaughan’s personal tribute to a community that is based not on ownership, but reciprocity, responsibility, and caring for the places that shape and sustain us all. Join the roundtable and engage in an intellectual exchange about teaching on our campus, how Hawaiʻi’s cultural heritage should inform and guide our pedagogy.
