The compliance date for the new rule on Accessibility of Web Content and Mobile Apps Provided by State and Local GovernmentsApril 24, 2026.
To comply, all web content and mobile apps must meet the technical standard of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Version 2.1, Level AA.

Kahua Kūpono: A Foundation for Inclusive Digital Learning is a self-paced professional development course that emphasizes both the foundational principles (kahua) of digital accessibility and a commitment to integrity and doing what is right (kūpono) in creating inclusive learning resources and environments. It serves as a low-pressure, self-paced learning resource with the option to complete a competency assessment to earn a digital credential. Participants learn important fundamental concepts of accessibility and how to apply their new knowledge to their own digital learning content (including Lamakū-based content). Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Section 508 Training
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) provides free online training resources to assist with creating, validating, and remediating accessible electronic content that conforms to the Section 508 standards. This training includes a “Trusted Tester Training Track” where you can learn about Section 508 Standards applicable to the web, how to install and use web accessibility test tools, and how to test websites and web application for Section 508 compliance. Completion of the track grants a Trusted Tester certification that is recognized by DHS.

Instructors can embrace more effective and accessible course design for all learners by incorporating UDL guidelines.
