  {"id":1500,"date":"2014-09-30T22:02:12","date_gmt":"2014-09-30T22:02:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/testsls\/?page_id=1500"},"modified":"2022-10-24T09:02:07","modified_gmt":"2022-10-24T19:02:07","slug":"lampe","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/sls\/graduate\/ma\/ma-program\/lampe\/","title":{"rendered":"Language Assessment, Measurement, and Program Evaluation (LAMPE) Track"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\t<p>Faculty and students in the Department teach and learn about Language Assessment, Measurement, and Program Evaluation (LAMPE) in order to promote:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>useful, fair, and accurate assessment of language users\/learners in educational, occupational, and other social settings;<\/li>\n<li>rigorous and appropriate uses of measurement in second and foreign language research;<\/li>\n<li>effective evaluation of language programs and projects, including both processes and products, with an emphasis on improvement.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The specific objectives of the LAMPE specialization are to develop language professionals&#8217; knowledge, abilities, and ethics in:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>sound strategies for test (assessment, instrument, measurement) development;<\/li>\n<li>innovative approaches to test design;<\/li>\n<li>appropriate practices in test piloting and validation;<\/li>\n<li>effective analysis and reporting of test development, design, and validation;<\/li>\n<li>responsible uses of test score interpretations and related outcomes;<\/li>\n<li>accurate applications of measurement to research questions and problems;<\/li>\n<li>purposeful approaches, models, and practices in program evaluation;<\/li>\n<li>essential and diverse research methods applicable to assessment, measurement, and evaluation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Courses: In addition to the four (4) core courses, MA students in the LAMPE track will complete the following:<\/p>\n<p>Required:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SLS 611 Second Language Testing<\/li>\n<li>SLS 630 Second Language Program Development<\/li>\n<li>The core seminar will be from SLS 730.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Two courses from the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SLS 670 Second Language Research<\/li>\n<li>SLS 671 Research Issues in Language Testing<\/li>\n<li>SLS 674 Survey Research Method<\/li>\n<li>SLS 675 Second Language Qualitative Research<\/li>\n<li>A Program Evaluation Course (e.g., EDCS 769, EDEP 768G, or equivalent)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-summary\">\n<div class=\"entry-summary\">\nFaculty and students in the Department teach and learn about Language Assessment, Measurement, and Program Evaluation (LAMPE) in order to promote: useful, fair, and accurate assessment of language users\/learners in educational, occupational, and other social settings;
