Microsoft Select Plus Price List

SYSTEM SOFTWARE

Microsoft application products purchased through this program can be made by University of Hawaii (UH) Departments for Â鶹´«Ã½related use only.

The table below provides the price per perpetual license, which is the legal right to use the software. For all operating system (OS) licenses, (1) Windows License is valid for (1) device only. Licenses are delivered via digital download or by loan USB. Trial versions or installers retrieved elsewhere may not work under this licensing program.

WARNING: Windows Operating System Upgrade Requirements
Windows licenses available through this program are UPGRADE versions only and are not "Full" OS licenses. These are strictly intended for systems already running a qualifying, pre-installed base operating system, such as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) license.

  • Not for New/Custom Builds: These licenses cannot be used for custom-built computers or devices without a pre-existing license.
  • OEM Restrictions: Please note that OEM licenses are tied to the original hardware and are non-transferable.
  • Purchasing or installing a Windows Upgrade license without a valid, qualifying base OS is a violation of the UH’s Microsoft License Agreement.
For a detailed list of qualifying base operating systems, please review the Microsoft Volume Licensing Brief: Windows Desktop Operating System.

Software Assurance (SA):

SA is an optional maintenance fee that provides version upgrade protection. It also allows for the Windows Pro or Edu OS to be installed on either a Windows or Mac computer.
  • SA purchased during the current term (through 10/31/2026) remains active until November 30, 2028.
  • To add SA to your license(s), please contact the Site License Office at sladmin@hawaii.edu for pricing.

Windows on a Mac

To install the Windows OS on a Mac, you must purchase the Windows Education License w/SA with the use of or a 3rd party product (, , etc.). You have the option to install either the Windows Pro or Education version. An active SA is a requirement for the Windows OS to run on a Mac. If SA coverage lapses, the Windows OS must be uninstalled to remain in compliance.

Downgrade Option

Downgrade Rights provide the legal entitlement to install and use a previous version of a software product in place of the version currently being purchased. You maintain the right to upgrade to the originally purchased version at a later date at no additional cost.
Example: If the Windows 11 Pro license is purchased, this can be downgraded to Windows 10 Pro if that version is required for your current hardware or legacy applications. This can later be upgraded back up to Windows 11 Pro at any time, at no additional cost.
Please be advised that .

Note: Compatibility is not guaranteed when installing an older operating system on a new computer, or a newer operating system on an older computer.
