Receives no benefits.\" class=\"glossaryLink \">Casual Hire<\/span> position.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Work with your HR Representative\/<span class=\"glossaryLink \" aria-label=\"Fiscal Administrator: Performs business and fiscal administration functions for a particular University unit.\" data-cmtooltip=\"Performs business and fiscal administration functions for a particular University unit.\"><span  aria-label=\"Fiscal Administrator: Performs business and fiscal administration functions for a particular University unit.\"  data-cmtooltip=\"Performs business and fiscal administration functions for a particular University unit.\" class=\"glossaryLink \">Fiscal Administrator<\/span><\/span> for general guidance.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Casual hires are for <span class=\"glossaryLink \" aria-label=\"BOR-type: Executive\/Managerial, Faculty, APT\" data-cmtooltip=\"Executive\/Managerial, Faculty, APT\"><span  aria-label=\"BOR-type: Executive\/Managerial, Faculty, APT\"  data-cmtooltip=\"Executive\/Managerial, Faculty, APT\" class=\"glossaryLink \">BOR-type<\/span><\/span> positions for periods of appointment and conditions of service which do not warrant using regular appointment and payroll procedures.<\/li>\n<li>The casual appointment process should not be used to circumvent the student employment, graduate assistant, or regular <span  aria-label=\"BOR-type: Executive\/Managerial, Faculty, APT\"  data-cmtooltip=\"Executive\/Managerial, Faculty, APT\" class=\"glossaryLink \">BOR-type<\/span> appointment processes.&nbsp; It is to be used when the lack of temporary services provided by the <span class=\"glossaryLink \" aria-label=\"Casual Hire: A short-term hire, normally requiring a 4-year degree, to perform professional work. Receives no benefits.\" data-cmtooltip=\"A short-term hire, normally requiring a 4-year degree, to perform professional work. Receives no benefits.\"><span  aria-label=\"Casual Hire: A short-term hire, normally requiring a 4-year degree, to perform professional work. Receives no benefits.\" class=\"glossaryLink \">casual hire<\/span><\/span> appointee would be detrimental to the program.<\/li>\n<li>No vacant <span class=\"glossaryLink \" aria-label=\"Position count: Position appropriated by the legislature.\" data-cmtooltip=\"Position appropriated by the legislature.\"><span  aria-label=\"Position count: Position appropriated by the legislature.\"  data-cmtooltip=\"Position appropriated by the legislature.\" class=\"glossaryLink \">position count<\/span><\/span> or position number is required.<\/li>\n<li>A casual appointment does not carry with it an implicit right or connotation that a subsequent or other appointment will be offered to the individual.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Submit Request for Casual Hire<\/h3>\n<p>Work with your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/ohr\/about-us\/contact-us\/directory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HR representative<\/a>\/<span class=\"glossaryLink \" aria-label=\"Fiscal Administrator: Performs business and fiscal administration functions for a particular University unit.\" data-cmtooltip=\"Performs business and fiscal administration functions for a particular University unit.\"><span  aria-label=\"Fiscal Administrator: Performs business and fiscal administration functions for a particular University unit.\"  data-cmtooltip=\"Performs business and fiscal administration functions for a particular University unit.\" class=\"glossaryLink \">Fiscal Administrator<\/span><\/span> to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Obtain authorization from the appointing authority or designee to&nbsp;appoint a <span  aria-label=\"Casual Hire: A short-term hire, normally requiring a 4-year degree, to perform professional work. Receives no benefits.\"  data-cmtooltip=\"A short-term hire, normally requiring a 4-year degree, to perform professional work. Receives no benefits.\" class=\"glossaryLink \">casual hire<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>Confirm availability of funds.<\/li>\n<li>Provide the following information in the request:\n<ul>\n<li>Description of duties and responsibilities of work<\/li>\n<li>Minimum qualifications and desirable qualifications if applicable<\/li>\n<li>Justification and impact on program if the request is not approved<\/li>\n<li>Appointment period\n<ul>\n<li>If half-time equivalent (.50 <span class=\"glossaryLink \" aria-label=\"FTE: Full Time Equivalency\" data-cmtooltip=\"Full Time Equivalency\"><span  aria-label=\"FTE: Full Time Equivalency\"  data-cmtooltip=\"Full Time Equivalency\" class=\"glossaryLink \">FTE<\/span><\/span> or more), shall be less than 3 months in duration<\/li>\n<li>If less than half-time equivalent, shall not exceed 12 month period<\/li>\n<li>More than one casual appointment may be concurrently held by an individual provided: 1) there is no conflict of scheduled time of service; 2) combined appointments do not exceed the limitations above; and 3) total combined work time will not exceed 1.00 <span  aria-label=\"FTE: Full Time Equivalency\"  data-cmtooltip=\"Full Time Equivalency\" class=\"glossaryLink \">FTE<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Work schedule (may be intermittent work or routine e.g. Monday &ndash; Friday)<\/li>\n<li>Number of hours of work per week (e.g. 20 hours, 40 hours, not to exceed x hours\/week)<\/li>\n<li>Type(s) of funding and account code(s)<\/li>\n<li>Proposed hourly, fee, or monthly rate of pay\n<ul>\n<li>Rate of compensation should be nearly as possible, the same as the paid regular employee doing the same or similar work.<\/li>\n<li>Appointments for <span  aria-label=\"APT: Administrative, Professional and Technical\"  data-cmtooltip=\"Administrative, Professional and Technical\" class=\"glossaryLink \">APT<\/span>-type services shall fall within the <span  aria-label=\"APT: Administrative, Professional and Technical\"  data-cmtooltip=\"Administrative, Professional and Technical\" class=\"glossaryLink \">APT<\/span> <span class=\"glossaryLink \" aria-label=\"Classification: A general process that groups similar positions together.
