The OVPAS and Policy Review
The Office of the Vice President for Academic Strategy (OVPAS) is responsible for facilitating and overseeing the establishment of academic programs and majors, and for developing and aligning policy and procedures relating to academic and student support system-wide.
The OVPAS develops, reviews, and revises Â鶹´«Ã½Regents Policies, Executive Policies, and Administrative Procedures related to academic matters and student services. (Note: many Â鶹´«Ã½policies fall outside the purview of the OVPAS.) These processes entail formal consultation with Â鶹´«Ã½faculty and other relevant constituencies, in accordance with Â鶹´«Ã½policy and the UHPA-BOR Contract. Each existing policy is reviewed every three years to determine whether revisions are needed. Current Â鶹´«Ã½System policies and procedures are publicly posted in electronic format:
The OVPAS provides a policy briefing to the All-Campus Council of Faculty Senate Chairs (ACCFSC) at the start of each academic year. This document details all of the existing policies under review for which revisions and consultation are anticipated. The document also specifies any new policies that are in development, which are also subject to formal consultation.?When policy revisions are circulated for consultation, the OVPAS provides both clean and redline versions of the documents.
As part of the consultation process, the OVPAS circulates an online survey form to capture feedback from any members of the Â鶹´«Ã½community who wish to submit comments. The OVPAS reviews every set of comments and records its response on the same spreadsheet that contains the policy feedback. Some of the comments provided result in additional revisions to the draft policy. Once comments are anonymized, the spreadsheet containing policy feedback and OVPAS responses is made available to the Â鶹´«Ã½community.
