The Applied Research Laboratory<\/a> (ARL<\/abbr>) at the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa<\/a> has been awarded a $77.2 million, five-year contract from the U.S.<\/abbr> Department of Defense (DoD<\/abbr>). ARL<\/abbr> will conduct research, development, engineering, and test and evaluation of programs.<\/p>\n

“UH<\/abbr> is home to the first Navy-sponsored university-affiliated research center to be established since the 1940s,” said ARL<\/abbr> Director Margo Edwards<\/strong>. “The renewal of ARL<\/abbr>’s contract for another five years recognizes the innovative research conducted today at UH<\/abbr>, which has the potential to solve challenges facing the Department of Defense moving forward.”<\/p>\n

ARL<\/abbr> was established in 2008 as a Navy-sponsored lab and is one of 13 university-affiliated research centers within the DoD<\/abbr>. The work conducted as part of ARL<\/abbr>’s contract has been documented to save the federal government millions of dollars while providing vital services.<\/p>\n
