Gee<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/offices\/bor\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Board of Regents<\/a> awarded the Regents Medal of Distinction to former member <strong>Chuck Gee<\/strong> at its May 16 meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Gee is the co-founder and longest serving dean of the <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <a href=\"https:\/\/tim.hawaii.edu\/\">School of Travel Industry Management<\/a>. He held that position from 1976 until his retirement in 1999.<\/p>\n<p>His expertise in tourism has earned him recognition in many forms including being named to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2015\/04\/08\/legendary-status-conferred-to-chuck-gee\/\">Pacific Asia Travel Association\u2019s Gallery of Legends<\/a>, honorary academic doctorates and the <em>Honolulu Star-Bulletin<\/em> naming him one of the 100 people who made a difference to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> in the 20th century. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the president of Taiwan in 2011 for his contributions to Taiwan\u2019s tourism industry.<\/p>\n<p>Gee served on the Board of Regents from 2009 to 2015. His contributions to the state and the university continue beyond his tenure. The <a href=\"https:\/\/giving.uhfoundation.org\/funds\/12799304\">C.
