In one of the best baseball seasons of the past three decades, it was a pair of sophomores who claimed the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Hilo<\/a> Pepsi Athletes of the Week awards after the final series of the year.<\/p>\n

Jaryn Kanbara<\/h2>\n

Sophomore catcher Kanbara finished up the 2019 season in strong fashion as the Vulcans wrapped up their best season in 27 years. Kanbara went 7-for-15 in a four-game slate at Biola, hitting a pair of home runs, driving in four runs and scoring three times. That raised his average to .270 on the season, with six doubles, four home runs and 22 RBI<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n

Kyle Alcorn<\/h2>\n

Sophomore Alcorn had a memorable final performance in 2019. In a 2–1 loss to Biola, he held a hot-hitting Eagle team to a pair of runs on just three hits, walking one and striking out five. In the only low-scoring game of the four contests, the Vulcans managed just one run as Alcorn wrapped up the year at 4–4. In 11 starts in 2019, Alcorn had a 3.88 ERA<\/abbr> and allowed only 51 hits in 58 innings pitched.<\/p>\n
