The <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> State Legislature has approved the $41 million funding request by <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> and <abbr title=\"Governor\">Gov.<\/abbr> David Ige for the center.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We thank the governor for supporting the vision by including in his budget.&rdquo; said <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Vice President for Budget and Finance <strong>Kalbert Young<\/strong>. &ldquo;The center will greatly improve the M\u0101noa student experience by providing contemporary spaces for studying and collaboration, along with easy access to academic advising and campus services, in one centralized location.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><abbr>UH<\/abbr> administrators say state lawmakers have thoroughly reviewed the project, which was a top priority for the university.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We want to especially recognize the lawmakers and their staff for their commitment to being part of the solution,&rdquo; said <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Vice President for Administration <strong>Jan Gouveia<\/strong>. &ldquo;They spent the necessary time and effort to work with us to understand our challenges and greatest needs.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The governor still has to officially approve the request with the funding likely to be released in the next six months during the 2019&#8211;2020 fiscal year. However, planning is already underway thanks to a previous $700,000 state appropriation. Internal meetings have begun, and meetings with stakeholders are expected to begin in the next month. The purpose is to create a clear vision of the elements needed for a successful student center.
