Highlight\/teaser cases in the library&#8217;s lobby are on display through May 15, while the main exhibit in the <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/library\/research\/collections\/archives\/about-the-reading-room\/\">Moir Reading Room<\/a> on the fifth floor of the Hamilton addition is viewable through the end of September. The lobby cases are accessible whenever the library is open, while the main exhibit is open during archive hours, Tuesdays through Fridays, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_94585\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-94585\" style=\"width: 214px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/manoa-library-exhibit-display-leilani-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-94585\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/manoa-library-exhibit-display-leilani-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/manoa-library-exhibit-display-leilani-93x130.jpg 93w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/manoa-library-exhibit-display-leilani.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-94585\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Leilani Dawson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The struggles against the <abbr>AIDS<\/abbr> epidemic and for same-sex marriage rights dominated politics and public discourse in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>, the nation and the world from the 1980s onward; the 50th State was on the forefront of both issues. The two issues were deeply connected, with activism against <abbr>AIDS<\/abbr> helping to energize the call for marriage rights.<\/p>\n<h2>More on the exhibit<\/h2>\n<p>The &ldquo;Creating &#38; Curating Change&rdquo; exhibit highlights materials from key people involved in both issues. The <abbr>AIDS<\/abbr> &#38; Same-Sex Marriage in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Archives was founded around 2017 by David McEwan, a primary care physician who started treating local <abbr>AIDS<\/abbr> patients in 1982, and <strong>Tom Ramsey<\/strong>, a retired <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa <a href=\"https:\/\/math.hawaii.edu\/wordpress\/\">math<\/a> professor.
