The conference is produced and hosted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sacnas.org\/\">Society for the Advancement of Chicanos\/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science<\/a> (<abbr>SACNAS<\/abbr>), an inclusive organization with over 45 years of experience of fostering the success underrepresented minorities in <abbr>STEM<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;With the most diverse campuses in the nation, the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> is perfectly aligned with the mission and goals of <abbr>SACNAS<\/abbr>,&rdquo; said <abbr>UH<\/abbr> President <strong>David Lassner<\/strong>. &ldquo;This is also an amazing opportunity to showcase the work of our faculty bringing together <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\u2019s\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½\u2019s<\/span> traditional indigenous knowledge and practice with modern science to better understand and address the challenges and opportunities we all face.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Estimates show the conference\u2019s thousands of attendees from across the nation could have an economic impact of more than $14 million on the state of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii.\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½.<\/span> Through the sponsorship, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> looks forward to highlighting the <abbr>STEM<\/abbr> leadership and expertise, often seen through a unique indigenous lens, that abounds in its 10 campuses across the state. It will be an important opportunity to recruit faculty and students from underrepresented populations as the experience <abbr>UH<\/abbr>\u2019s affordable community colleges committed to open access and student success, regional universities with distinctive hands-on programs, and the flagship <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa research university one of only a handful of land-, sea-, sun- and space-grant institutions and a global leader in earth and environmental sciences, consistently ranked among the top 15 universities internationally.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The <abbr>SACNAS<\/abbr> conference is fully aligned with <span aria-label=\"<abbr>UH<\/abbr>s&#8221;><abbr>UH<\/abbr>&#699;s<\/span> work in sustainability as we strive to become a model-indigenous serving university that values land, people and human knowledge from all times and cultures,&rdquo; said Lassner.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>SACNAS<\/abbr> has always believed that science, community, and culture must be equally valued and celebrated to foster a truly inclusive <abbr>STEM<\/abbr> endeavor. In that spirit, this year\u2019s conference will feature special scientific tracks on climate change and indigenous science that will highlight Hawaiian and Pacific Islander research, <abbr>STEM<\/abbr> issues, and the widely diverse communities represented in <abbr>STEM<\/abbr>. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;<abbr>SACNAS<\/abbr>\u2019 strategy to help the American workforce reach its full potential is multi-pronged and includes developing talented individuals from populations historically underrepresented in <abbr>STEM<\/abbr> and improving the <abbr>STEM<\/abbr> environment.
