A ranking by The Political Science 400<\/em><\/a> lists two University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa<\/a> professors, Kathy E. Ferguson<\/strong> and Michael J. Shapiro<\/strong>, among the top 25 most-cited political theorists in the United States. <\/p>\n

“One of the strengths of the Political Science Department<\/a> is our focus on political theory. Thus, it is a huge honor that not one but two of our faculty members have been recognized as being among the most cited and influential political theorists working in the field today,” said Noelani Goodyear\u2013Kaʻ\u014dpua<\/span><\/strong>, associate professor and chair of the Political Science Department in the College of Social Sciences<\/a> at UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa. “Our department is proud to have Professors Kathy Ferguson and Michael J. Shapiro on staff. Both are intellectual powerhouses in their field, who are not only excellent researchers, but also wonderful professors who inspire their students to greatness,” she added. <\/p>\n

“We congratulate Kathy and Michael on receiving this honor. It is a reflection of the exceptional caliber of our faculty that the only other universities that have more than one political theorist named in The Political Science 400\u2019s<\/em> top 25 are Stanford, Columbia and New York University,” said Denise Eby Konan<\/strong>, dean of the College of Social Sciences. <\/p>\n

The Political Science 400<\/em> identifies the 400 most highly cited scholars in the profession who are currently teaching at PhD<\/abbr>-granting political science departments in the United States. It lists the top 25 most-cited in each of six subfields: American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Methodology, Political Theory and Public Policy\/Public Administration\/Public Law\/Political Psychology. <\/p>\n

The Political Science 400<\/em> is an exhaustive rankings study published in the journal, PS<\/abbr>: Political Science & Politics<\/em>, which provides critical analyses of contemporary political phenomena and is the journal of record for the discipline of political science reporting on research, teaching and professional development. Since 1968, PS<\/abbr><\/em> is the only quarterly professional news and commentary journal in the field and is the prime source of information on political scientists’ achievements and professional concerns. <\/p>\n
