The book shares samples of projects and published work by students using four key instructional methods along with an extensive how-to section.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anna Yoshie Sumida<\/strong>, <strong>Mikilani Hayes Maeshiro<\/strong> and <strong>Meleanna Aluli Meyer<\/strong> collaborated on the curriculum, which integrates knowledge and practices in literacy and culture, art and science, with a goal of creating a transformative educational experience for every child, building from the students\u2019 home language and culture.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This book is social justice to the core as it revolves around cultural identity, ecological stewardship, creativity, interdisciplinary teaching\/learning and liberating student voice,&rdquo; said Sumida. &ldquo;It is theoretically grounded and has an extensive how-to section with 218 full-color images of student (artwork) and writing samples, both in <span aria-label=\"olelo\">&#699;\u014dlelo<\/span> <span aria label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and English.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The book is available from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.equinoxpub.com\/home\/arting-writing\/\">Equinox Publishing<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Arting-Writing-Transform-Education-Ecologically\/dp\/184553655X\">Amazon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>More about the authors<\/h2>\n<p>Sumida earned a <abbr title=\"Doctor of Philosophy\">PhD<\/abbr>  in education from <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa. She has taught Hawaiian children for 25 years.<\/p>\n<p>Maeshiro earned a <abbr title=\"Master of Education\">MEd<\/abbr>  in education from <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa. She is an education design specialist at Kamehameha Schools.<\/p>\n<p>Meyer earned a <abbr title=\"Bachelor of Art\">BA<\/abbr> in design and photography from Stanford University and an <abbr>MEd<\/abbr> in education from <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa.
