They knew it was time to look beyond the college\u2019s associate in science degree in information technology.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning in fall 2019, students can work toward a new bachelor of applied science degree in <a href=\"http:\/\/maui.hawaii.edu\/abit\/\">applied business and information technology<\/a> (<abbr title=\"applied business and information technology\">ABIT<\/abbr>) from the <a href=\"http:\/\/maui.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Maui College<\/a>. The curricula for this online degree emphasizes business and stresses the importance of using the skills and knowledge of information technology effectively. The <abbr>ABIT<\/abbr> program also includes an interdisciplinary focus on liberal arts courses in the humanities, social sciences, English, communication and mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>Chancellors <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/leadership\/louise-pagotto\/\"><strong>Louise Pagotto<\/strong><\/a> of <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/leadership\/lui-hokoana\/\"><strong>Lui Hokoana<\/strong><\/a> of <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Maui College signed a memorandum of agreement to create the first baccalaureate degree program that integrates the curricula between two community college campuses in the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> System. Under the agreement for the online degree, students who earn an associate in science degree in <abbr>IT<\/abbr> from <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> transfer to <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Maui College to earn a bachelor of applied science degree in <abbr>ABIT<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lori Sakaguchi<\/strong>, a counselor for <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>\u2019s Business, Legal and Technology Department, said, &ldquo;We are excited to offer this pathway to a bachelor\u2019s degree for our information technology students!
