The <a href=\"https:\/\/ncorp.cancer.gov\/about\/\">National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program<\/a> (<abbr>NCORP<\/abbr>) recognized people from all over the country for outstanding achievements between 2017 and 2018.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The six clinical faculty members and researchers honored by <abbr>NCORP<\/abbr> demonstrate the focus of the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Cancer Center on community-based research and cancer clinical trial participation,&rdquo; said Director <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhcancercenter.org\/about-us\/directory\/faculty-staff\/473\"><strong>Randall Holcombe<\/strong><\/a>. &ldquo;We want to make sure that everyone in Hawai\u2018i has access to cancer clinical trials in order to improve response to treatment, increase the chance of cure and prolong survival.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Minority\/Underserved <abbr>NCORP<\/abbr> at the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Cancer Center received recognition in the Platinum Award category.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wade Kyono,<\/strong> a clinical faculty member, received a Gold Award for enrolling 20&#8211;39 patients.<\/p>\n<p>Four <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Cancer Center physicians were honored with Silver Awards, achieving 10&#8211;19 enrollments during the last year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhcancercenter.org\/about-us\/2-directory\/139\">Jared Acoba<\/a><\/strong>, assistant professor<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhcancercenter.org\/research\/2-directory\/123\">Jeffrey Berenberg<\/a><\/strong>, professor and principal investigator of the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>NCORP<\/abbr> program based out of the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Cancer Center<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhcancercenter.org\/research\/2-directory\/137\">Jonathan Cho<\/a><\/strong>, adjunct professor<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ronald Yanagihara<\/strong>, clinical faculty<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Virginia McMahon<\/strong>, assistant clinical manager, received a retirement recognition celebrating her 30-year career contribution to community-based cancer research.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8212;By Nana Ohkawa<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Cancer Institute recognized six clinical faculty members and researchers for their contributions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":16,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[29],"tags":[598,169,9],"class_list":["post-87739","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-people","tag-faculty-recognition","tag-uh-cancer-center","tag-uh-manoa","entry","has-media"],"aioseo_notices":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/87739","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/16"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=87739"}],"version-history":[{"count":8,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/87739\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":113505,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/87739\/revisions\/113505"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=87739"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=87739"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=87739"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
