Explore. Discover. The entire family can do all three at the 28th annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leeward.hawaii.edu\/Fair\">Discovery Fair<\/a> on Saturday, November 3, 9 a.m.&#8211;3 p.m. at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leeward.hawaii.edu\/\">Leeward Community College<\/a>. Admission and parking are free.<\/p>\n<p>Discovery Fair features new activities each year. This year includes a giant-sized version of the children\u2019s game, &ldquo;Operation,&rdquo; created by the Industrial Technology program, and Hawaiian studies faculty guiding an exploration of a 10-foot Hawaiian star compass.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is our 28th year presenting our annual fair,&rdquo; said <strong>Jenny Watada<\/strong>, faculty co-chair of Discovery Fair. &ldquo;Making education fun and engaging is at the heart of what we do. With all the activities offered for free, the fair is really our &lsquo;thank you&rsquo; to the community.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The first 500 families to check in at the information table will win a prize. More than 50 $50 gift cards will be given away, with several food vendors offering 50 cent food options and 50 hands-on learning activities for the entire family. The 50 theme is part of the campus\u2019 celebration of its 50th anniversary.<\/p>\n<h2>Returning crowd-favorites<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Quicksand goo<\/strong>: a mysterious substance that\u2019s both solid and liquid<\/li>\n<li><strong>Slime time<\/strong>: the magic of polymers<\/li>\n<li><strong>Play with clay<\/strong>: hands-on clay sculpting, including the opportunity to take a spin with a pottery wheel<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rockets<\/strong>: create and launch your personalized rocket<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lightning bolt challenge<\/strong>: a speedy competition diving into the nuts and bolts of engines<\/li>\n<li>Tours of the fossil and mineral and natural history exhibits<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Additional offerings<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mad hatter<\/strong>: create a fashionable hat from recycled materials<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fun with fish<\/strong>: learn the ancient art of gyotaku, the traditional Japanese method of creating an artistic print of a fish<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chemistry magic<\/strong>: freeze a flower or shrink a balloon with liquid nitrogen<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bubble geometry<\/strong>: stand inside a giant bubble or create some bubbles in a variety of shapes and sizes<\/li>\n<li><strong>Our story<\/strong>: take a selfie with our early human ancestor, the famous &ldquo;Lucy&rdquo;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kreating with kukui<\/strong>: learn how to make a nut spinner toy, a knotted lei and create artwork from leaf rubbings<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rainbow water<\/strong>: create a stackable rainbow of color with water and learn about the density of fluids<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Discovery Fair entry, parking and all educational activities are free.
