Charles D. Booth<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Professor Charles D. Booth<\/strong><\/a>, founder and director of the Institute of Asian-Pacific Business Law<\/a> at the William S. Richardson School of Law<\/a> at the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa<\/a>, has been named the Michael J. Marks Business Law Professor<\/a>. The internationally-renowned expert on Asian business law has expertise in cross-border transactions and insolvency as well as commercial law, particularly in the aftermath of the Asian financial crisis.<\/p>\n

The distinguished professorship is for a three-year term, renewable for an additional two years. The law school consulted outside advisors in the selection process.<\/p>\n

Booth publishes extensively and has co-authored more than 70 publications. He is often asked to deliver keynote addresses or speeches at conferences and gatherings on Asia-Pacific business law.<\/p>\n

Booth earned his BA<\/abbr>, summa cum laude<\/em>, from Yale University in 1981 and his JD<\/abbr>, cum laude<\/em>, from Harvard Law School in 1984. He spent three years at the international law firm of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen and Hamilton in New York before coming to the UH<\/abbr> law school in 1986. His impressive range of teaching experience took him to the University of Hong Kong from 1989 to 2005, before rejoining the UH<\/abbr> law school in 2006.<\/p>\n
