The funding will go toward serving diverse populations, including Native Hawaiian, deaf-blind, at-risk, English language learners and economically disadvantaged, in five <abbr>CDS<\/abbr> programs over the next three to five years.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;These grants make us very proud. They will help us serve the underserved, build capacity and partnerships across the state and support young people with disabilities to realize their quests for bright futures,&rdquo; <abbr>CDS<\/abbr> Director <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/coe.hawaii.edu\/directory\/index.php?person=pmorriss\">Patricia Morrissey<\/a><\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Funding breakdown:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Project <span aria-label=\"Hookui\">Ho&#699;oku&#699;i<\/span> <abbr title=\"three\">III<\/abbr>: Na Kumu <span aria-label=\"Alakai\u20142.1\">Alaka&#699;i&#8212;$2.1<\/span> million<\/li>\n<li>Postsecondary Support Project Increasing the Success of Native Hawaiian Youth with Culturally Responsive Coaching&#8212;$2.1 million<\/li>\n<li><span aria-label=\"Neepapa\">Ne&#699;epapa<\/span> Ka Hana 2.0&#8212;$950,000<\/li>\n<li>The <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Family Engagement Center&#8212;$990,000<\/li>\n<li>The <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and Pacific Deaf Blind Consortium&#8212;$785,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Project <span aria-label=\"Hookui\">Ho&#699;oku&#699;i<\/span> <abbr title=\"three\">III<\/abbr>: Na Kumu <span aria-label=\"Alakai\">Alaka&#699;i<\/span><\/strong> addresses the needs of at-risk children and youth and the underemployment of Native Hawaiians. The goal is to increase enrollment of Native Hawaiian students in postsecondary education or certification programs, which leads to employment. This is done through implementation of a professional development program designed for <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Department of Education (<abbr>HIDOE<\/abbr>) faculty based on the previous Project <span aria-label=\"Hookui\">Ho&#699;oku&#699;i<\/span> model.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Postsecondary Support Project Increasing the Success of Native Hawaiian Youth with Culturally Responsive Coaching<\/strong> will work with the <a href=\"http:\/\/uhcc.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Community Colleges<\/a> to enhance and expand a successful support model that addresses the needs of Native Hawaiian youth who are at risk of failure in postsecondary education and to realize improved employment outcomes.
