This joint venture with <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr>, the Missouri University of Science and Technology and the University of Houston makes <abbr>CEMC<\/abbr> one of the largest electromagnetic research focused groups in the world. <\/p>\n<p>This collaboration will broaden the application of electromagnetics in research areas particularly active at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa&#8212;wireless technologies, medical measurement\/patient monitoring, and reinforcement\/machine learning and optimization methods for renewable energy applications, quantum-scale engineering and liquid metals for reconfigurable microwave circuits.<\/p>\n<p>The grant was made possible through the efforts of <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ee.hawaii.edu\/\">electrical engineering<\/a> Professor <a href=\"http:\/\/ee.hawaii.edu\/faculty\/detail.php?usr=35\"><strong>Magdy Iskander<\/strong><\/a>, his team at the <a href=\"http:\/\/hcac.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Center for Advanced Communications<\/a> (<abbr>HCAC<\/abbr>) and colleagues from across the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eng.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Engineering<\/a>. <abbr>HCAC<\/abbr> will oversee <abbr>UH<\/abbr>&#8216;s involvement in <abbr>CEMC<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>&lsquo;Through this award, we leverage <abbr>NSF<\/abbr> funding to enable a long-term and sustainable industry relevant research program that is based on partnership among industry, academe and government, &rsquo; said Iskander.  &lsquo;<abbr>NSF<\/abbr> funds together with secured required industry memberships will enable the establishment of a half-a-million dollar Industry-University Cooperative Research Center. &rsquo; <\/p>\n<p>Aided by an industrial advisory board that includes representatives from  from more than 25 high-tech and technology-related corporations, such as Apple, <abbr title=\"International Business Machines Corporation\">IBM<\/abbr>, Intel, Boeing, Cisco and Sony, and the new addition of Raytheon, Hawaiian Electric Company, <abbr title=\"Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command\">SPAWAR<\/abbr> and <abbr title=\"Level 3\">L3<\/abbr> Technologies from <abbr>UH<\/abbr>, <abbr>CEMC<\/abbr> has cultivated an impressive track record for developing techniques and materials to improve the speed and reliability of electronics, with applications in aerospace, communications, renewable energy, biomedical and electromagnetic compatibility and interference technologies. <\/p>\n<h2>High-tech industry gathering of the year at <abbr>UH<\/abbr><\/h2>\n<p>The board will hold its inaugural meeting November 6&#8211;9 at the East-West Center. <\/p>\n<p>Registration is free and attendance from local high-tech companies is welcome.
