(Credit: Orrin Nakanelua)<br \/><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/windward.hawaii.edu\/\">Windward Community College<\/a> presents <em>A Walking Shadow<\/em>, written by <strong>Taurie Kinoshita<\/strong> and performed by Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> Theatre 260 students at Palik\u016b Theatre, October 19&#8211;27.<\/p>\n<p>The performance chronicles the tragic true story of Myles Fukunaga, a mentally ill 19-year-old, who was executed on <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> in 1929. This heartbreaking, expressionistic drama recounts Fukunaga\u2019s horrifying descent into madness, his unspeakable crime and the ultimate injustice of his trial and death sentence.<\/p>\n<h2>Show dates and times:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>October 19 and 20 (Friday and Saturday), 7:30 p.m. (Post-show talk with cast on Saturday, October 20)<\/li>\n<li>October 21 (Sunday), 4 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>October 24 (Wednesday), 4 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>October 25&#8211;27 (Thursday&#8211;Saturday), 7:30 p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/windward.hawaii.edu\/theatre\/productions\/walking-shadow\/\">Purchase Tickets online<\/a> or call (808) 779-3456 for more information.<\/p>\n<p><em>Due to adult situations and themes, this play is recommended for ages 16 and older<\/em>. Running time is 80 minutes. Each performance will be preceded by a special pre-show talk on mental illness starting 15 minutes before the beginning of the show.<\/p>\n<p><em>A Walking Shadow<\/em> deals with agency&#8212;mental and cultural&#8212;exploring the consequences of racism, lack of representation and the plight of those afflicted with mental illness. Using transcripts of interviews, the story is told from the perspective of Fukunaga and will take the audience into the mind of someone who is troublingly mentally ill.
