Andrade<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.hawaii.edu\/person\/troy-jh-andrade-11\">Troy J.H. Andrade<\/a>, an assistant professor at the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.hawaii.edu\/\">William S. Richardson School of Law<\/a>, has been deemed an &ldquo;emerging teacher&rdquo; by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saltlaw.org\/\">Society of American Law Teachers<\/a> (<abbr>SALT<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n<p>Andrade has won the national 2018 <abbr>SALT<\/abbr> Junior Faculty Teaching Award, which honors only one or two law teachers annually for extraordinary commitment to justice, equality and academic excellence.<\/p>\n<p>Andrade, in his third year on the law school faculty, was praised for his work as director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.hawaii.edu\/ulu-lehua-scholars-program\">Ulu Lehua Scholars Program<\/a>. It offers additional tutoring and support during the first year of law school to students who have overcome adversity and show promise in serving underserved communities.<\/p>\n<p>The 2011 graduate of the Ulu Lehua Program served as a law clerk for <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark E. Recktenwald. He then became a civil litigator with the law firm McCorriston Miller Mukai MacKinnon in Honolulu, where he focused on complex commercial issues and important constitutional cases.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This recognition is particularly important to me, as <abbr>SALT<\/abbr> mission aligns with the dream that <abbr title=\"Chief Justice\">CJ<\/abbr> (Chief Justice) Richardson had for our law school,&rdquo; Andrade said.<\/p>\n<p>He will accept the award at the <abbr>SALT<\/abbr> Teaching Conference in October at Penn State University&#8217;s Dickinson Law School.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.hawaii.edu\/article\/national-teaching-award-law-professor-troy-andrade-%E2%80%9911\">See the full story on the law school&#8217;s website.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8212;By Beverly Creamer<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Assistant Professor Troy J.H.
