The paper is the cover story of the August 2018 issue of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/journal\/genes\"><em>Genes<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Led by biologist <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/jolenesutton\/\"><strong>Jolene Sutton<\/strong><\/a>, an assistant professor at <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Hilo, the research team created a genome assembly that provides critical insights into inbreeding and disease susceptibility of the <span aria-label=\"alala\">&#699;alal\u0101<\/span>.
