It is bestowed on members who have advanced the goals of the society to promote research and education in meteoritics and planetary science in ways other than by conducting scientific research.<\/p>\n<p>Martel was recognized for her central role in creating <a href=\"http:\/\/www.psrd.hawaii.edu\/\">Planetary Science Research Discoveries<\/a>, an educational website that informs the public about what meteoriticists do.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lydia Hallis<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82863\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82863\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/manoa-soest-hallis-meteoritical-society.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/manoa-soest-hallis-meteoritical-society-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-82863\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/manoa-soest-hallis-meteoritical-society-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/manoa-soest-hallis-meteoritical-society-630x353.jpg 630w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/manoa-soest-hallis-meteoritical-society.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82863\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lydia Hallis, center, receiving the Nier Prize.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lydia Hallis, faculty member at Glasgow University in Scotland, was awarded the society\u2019s Nier Prize, which recognizes outstanding research in meteoritics and allied fields by young (under age 35) scientists.<\/p>\n<p>Hallis was a postdoctoral researcher in <abbr>HIGP<\/abbr> and the <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Institute for Astronomy from 2010 to 2014, and still collaborates with <abbr>UH<\/abbr> faculty members.
