Burns School of Medicine<\/a> (<abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>) will soon be welcoming 72 candidates, the largest class size in a decade under the leadership of <a href=\"http:\/\/jabsom.hawaii.edu\/about-us\/deans-message\/\">Dean <strong>Jerris Hedges<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/manoa-jabsom-new-students-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"medical students wearing scrubs and gloves\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-81959\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/manoa-jabsom-new-students-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/manoa-jabsom-new-students-630x353.jpg 630w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/manoa-jabsom-new-students.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Class of 2022 includes residents from <span aria-label=\"Waianae\">Wai&#699;anae<\/span>, <span aria-label=\"Ewa\">&#699;Ewa<\/span> Beach, Kalihi and Guam.<\/p>\n<p>Before the new students begin their journey at <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>, the newly graduated Class of 2018 shared some important lessons with the incoming class.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Work hard, be humble and don&#8217;t forget the help that you&#8217;ve been given,&rdquo; said <strong>Leimomi Kanagusuku<\/strong> of <span aria-label=\"Waianae\">Wai&#699;anae<\/span>, who is completing her residency training in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.jabsom.hawaii.edu\/FamilyMedicine\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Family Medicine Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Among the new doctors&#8217; snippets of counsel to the incoming class: encouragement through long nights of studying, cherishing the lifelong friendships they&#8217;ll make and never forgetting to thank the people who have been rooting for their individual success since day one.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8212;By Deborah Manog Dimaya<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The John A.
