Nonaka passed away on June 2.<\/p>\n<p>Nonaka\u2019s passion for culinary education was legendary. He readily connected with master chefs and executives in the industry, and always remembered his service and commitment to students. His generosity and humility comprised his brand, which forged and established lasting relationships for <abbr>CIP<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Read more: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2015\/09\/08\/culinary-institute-of-the-pacific-groundbreaking\/\">Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Diamond Head breaks ground<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> Chancellor <strong>Louise Pagotto<\/strong> said, &ldquo;We will miss Conrad dearly. He was a kind, generous colleague. He went out of his way to make sure we were well taken care of at any of our public events. You could always count on Conrad to be gracious and to make guests to the college feel comfortable. His smile and laughter filled the room.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2016\/06\/01\/distinguished-alumni-honored-for-achievements\/\">Nonaka received a <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Distinguished Alumni Award<\/a>. According to his bio, &ldquo;After earning his <abbr title=\"bachelor of education\">BEd<\/abbr> from <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa and receiving an honorable military discharge from the U.S. Army, Nonaka trained many in the hospitality industry. A proud graduate of the culinary program at <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> Community College, Nonaka returned to share his knowledge and expertise with the culinary students as chef instructor. He developed the successful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2013\/10\/07\/benefits-abound-from-popular-kapiolani-cc-farmers-market\/\"><span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> Saturday Farmers\u2019 Market<\/a>&#8212;an educational partnership agreement between the Culinary Institute of the Pacific and the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> State Farm Bureau Federation. The market has grown into a destination event for an average of more than 9,000 people each Saturday.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uhalumni.org\/uhaa\/annual_events\/daa\/2016\/conrad_nonaka\">Go to the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Foundation website for more on Nonaka.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Nonaka is survived by wife Susan and two grown sons. <\/p>\n<h2>Services<\/h2>\n<p>Services are scheduled for July 13, 4:30 p.m. at <span aria-label=\"Nuuanu\">Nu&#699;uanu<\/span> Memorial Park and Mortuary.
