(Courtesy photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/hilo-hi.aauw.net\/\">American Association of University Women, Hilo Branch<\/a>, has selected five <a href=\"https:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at Hilo<\/a> students for 2018-2019 scholarships. <strong>Kathryn Strong<\/strong> was awarded $2,000, and <strong>Amanda Alvarado<\/strong>, <strong>Kaylee DeCambra<\/strong>, <strong>Liesl Nayeli<\/strong> and <strong>Kaimalie Zirker<\/strong> each received $1,000 awards.<\/p>\n<p>Strong has spent 13 years working in the environmental health field. Her current goal is a master\u2019s degree in the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo tropical conservation biology and environmental science program.<\/p>\n<p>Alvarado is seeking to complete a master of arts in counseling psychology at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo. Her research interests include post traumatic stress disorder, trauma, adolescent mental health, sexual trauma and forensic interviewing.<\/p>\n<p>DeCambra is double majoring in sociology, and gender and women\u2019s studies, as well as pursuing certificates in educational studies and Spanish. After graduating, she plans on entering the counseling psychology graduate program at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo.<\/p>\n<p>Nayeli is working to complete a bachelor of arts in psychology from <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo. She is doing a practicum in psychology and works with adults with chronic mental illness using cognitive behavioral therapy and art as medicine.<\/p>\n<p>Zirker is a mother of a second grade son and is pursuing a bachelor of science in nursing at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo.
