Burns School of Medicine<\/a> (<abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>) Class of 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/jabsom.hawaii.edu\/video-photos-celebrating-6-new-physicians-of-native-hawaiian-ancestry-entering-the-medical-community\/\">emotional ceremony<\/a> honored <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>&#8216;s six newest Native Hawaiian doctors: <strong>David Bailey<\/strong>, <strong>Nina Beckwith<\/strong>, <strong>Leimomi Kanagusuku<\/strong>, <strong>Nohea Leatherman-Arkus<\/strong>, <strong>Monika Young<\/strong> and former Kahuku Red Raider and New Mexico State football player <strong>Quinlinn Adolpho<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/nhcoe\/\">Native Hawaiian Center of Excellence<\/a> at <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr> and <span aria-label=\"Ahahui\">&#699;Ahahui<\/span> o n\u0101 Kauka sponsor the annual ceremony, when Native Hawaiian doctors are honored and cloaked with a k\u012bhei, a Hawaiian garment worn over one shoulder. Each k\u012bhei, adorned by using traditional Hawaiian techniques, displays the prints and colors unique to each graduate&#8217;s individual journey into medicine.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr> continues to be the nation&#8217;s only accredited medical school with a clinical department dedicated to the health of an indigenous people of the <abbr>U.S.<\/abbr><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8212;By Deborah Manog Dimaya<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Six members of the John A.
