The University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa College of Education<\/a> (COE<\/abbr>) held its second annual COE<\/abbr> Day at the Capitol on March 21, in conjunction with Education Week. More than 30 COE<\/abbr> faculty, staff, students and alumni gathered at the Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> State Capitol to showcase programs, celebrate achievements and build relationships with legislative staff and community stakeholders.<\/p>\n

In addition to highlights of the college\u2019s award-winning programs, global research and community impact, this year\u2019s event featured the recognition of three outstanding COE<\/abbr> mentor teachers as well as Miss Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> USA<\/abbr> 2018. <\/p>\n

Senator Michelle N. Kidani honored the outstanding mentor teachers before an audience in the Senate Gallery: Ben Boltz<\/strong> (MEdT<\/abbr>, Institute for Teacher Education) from Waipahu High School, Susan Nakama<\/strong> (MEd<\/abbr>, curriculum studies) from Kaleiʻi\u014dpʻu<\/span> Elementary School and Joni Wong<\/strong> (MEd<\/abbr>, special education) from Pearl Harbor Elementary School. Senator Stanley Chang honored Julianne Chu<\/strong>, the current Miss Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> USA<\/abbr> who earned her BEd in Elementary Education. <\/p>\n

“We were pleased to take part in Education Week at the Capitol and engage in conversations with legislators and other attendees about the importance of teacher education and the diverse impact that the COE<\/abbr> has across the state,” said Jessica Miranda<\/strong>, COE<\/abbr> director of assessment, accreditation and accountability. “We look forward to future opportunities to engage with our Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> legislators.”<\/p>\n
