{"id":76607,"date":"2018-03-23T10:20:46","date_gmt":"2018-03-23T20:20:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=76607"},"modified":"2020-03-12T16:02:53","modified_gmt":"2020-03-13T02:02:53","slug":"community-look-hawaii-cc-palamanui","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2018\/03\/23\/community-look-hawaii-cc-palamanui\/","title":{"rendered":"Community gets close-up look at Hawai\u02bbi <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr>\u2013P\u0101lamanui"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span><div class=\"responsive-video-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"676\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/N0i-tHF3OEc\" title=\"YouTube video player\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>West <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> residents got to &ldquo;test drive&rdquo; the <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaii.hawaii.edu\/palamanui\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Community College&#8211;P\u0101lamanui<\/a> campus March 21 and 22 during College Experience Days.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors were able to tour\u00a0the campus, participate in daily activities and even sit in on classes that were underway.<\/p>\n<p>AriaMarie Tyau, a ninth grader from Waimea, said her favorite part of the visit was seeing the science labs at the campus, because that\u2019s one of the subjects she\u2019s interested in pursuing when she attends college.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I\u2019m a science geek, so that\u2019s probably why,&rdquo; she said, laughing. &ldquo;I\u2019m really interested in it, and moving forward with that would be great.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The ability to see not just the physical facilities but also seeing the learning that occurs in the classroom made the event especially meaningful, according to Lisa Jacob, who attended the event with her sons.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It\u2019s been a great experience,&rdquo; Jacob said. &ldquo;We didn\u2019t realize we were actually going to be able to see classes in session, which was much more interesting than having someone just talk to us about what would happen.
