Learning how to heal man and the land is the task at hand!&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Lectures focused on topics such as sustainable food systems and energy in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and the practice of sustainable agriculture. <strong>Noa Lincoln<\/strong>, University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa assistant professor in the Department of <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/ctahr\/tpss\/\">Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences<\/a>, discussed the politics of food in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;In this course we use <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> as a model system to illustrate tradeoffs at the nexus of food, water and energy,&rdquo; said Lincoln. &ldquo;We attempt to blend business, technology and values to push students to envision [an] impactful model of social enterprise to solve problems in these arenas.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>More about the Sustainable Community Food and Energy Systems Intensive course<\/h2>\n<p>This short-term, experiential course intensive was made possible through a partnership involving <a href=\"http:\/\/thegreenprogram.com\">The GREEN Program<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/sustainability\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Office of Sustainability<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/cms.ctahr.hawaii.edu\/home.aspx\">College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources<\/a> at <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa. It was hosted by alternative travel company Altruvistas and <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Travel Director Lala Nuss, who is also the founder of a social enterprise, <a href=\"http:\/\/consciousconcepts808.com\">Conscious Concepts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As a keiki o ka <span aria-label=\"aina\">&#699;\u0101ina<\/span>, having the opportunity to work with <a href=\"https:\/\/altruvistas.com\/\">AltruVistas<\/a> as the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> travel director and curating travel experiences for individuals and groups genuinely interested in connecting to, learning from and positively impacting the place and people they come to visit is an incredible honor as well as a necessary challenge,&rdquo; said Nuss. &ldquo;The evolution of the travel industry and <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> is a unique opportunity to create a model as a global leader in transforming travel for the greater good, not just for profit but for prosperity, true wealth&#8212;waiwai&#8212;and it all starts from the roots.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><span aria-label=\"Kamaaina\">Kama&#699;aina<\/span> scholarships will be available for the next cohort starting in summer 2018.
