Six <span aria-label=\"Molokai\">Moloka&#699;i<\/span> High seniors spent a half-day at the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Department of Art and Art History on February 16. They watched a demonstration of glass blowing by art Professor <strong>Rick Mills<\/strong>, got hands-on experience in the art of printmaking with help from graduate student <strong>Soo Mei Teh<\/strong> and <strong>Helena Noordhoff<\/strong>, who expects to get her bachelor of fine arts degree in May. The <span aria-label=\"Molokai\">Moloka&#699;i<\/span> students also toured the ceramics facility.<\/p>\n<p>And that\u02bbs not all. The <span aria-label=\"Molokai\">Moloka&#699;i<\/span> students watched <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/liveonstage\/delights\/\"><em>Fights &#38; Delights: Three Chinese Comedies<\/em><\/a> at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/liveonstage\/kennedy-theatre\/\">Kennedy Theater<\/a>, visited the Honolulu Museum of Art Spalding House and Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture and Design, and attended a concert at <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Public Radio\u2019s Atherton Performing Arts Studio. On top of that they went to eat dim sum, which is apparently difficult to find on <span aria-label=\"Molokai\">Moloka&#699;i<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I just wanted to expose these kids, who are from a much smaller universe if that\u2019s what you want to call it, than being over here on <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>,&rdquo; said Bento, who earned both his degrees at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa (a bachelor of fine arts in 1981 and a master of fine arts in 1991). &ldquo;They don\u02bbt get to see facilities like this.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The students also were looking for ideas for a sculpture they want to make as a gift to <span aria-label=\"Molokai\">Moloka&#699;i<\/span> High. &ldquo;I wanted them to get some bigger ideas and be exposed to some bigger ideas, so <abbr>UH<\/abbr> campus offers a lot of that,&rdquo; Bento said.<\/p>\n<p><span aria-label=\"Molokai\">Moloka&#699;i<\/span> High senior Aliana Eustaquio said the trip would help cultivate their creativity. &ldquo;We already have a sketch and everything, but Mr. Bento said maybe this can open your eyes just a little bit more and open the door just a little bit wider, so we\u02bbre hoping to get a lot of ideas,&rdquo; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Eustaquio plans to attend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kapiolani.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> Community College<\/a> next fall.
