With the 2018 theme, &ldquo;Know the Past. Shape the Future,&rdquo; the scheduled events are designed to provide the campus community with cultural perspectives about the achievements of African Americans and the impact they have made on society.<\/p>\n<h2>Event schedule<\/h2>\n<p>The following events to be held throughout the month of February are free and open to the campus community and general public.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Global Metaphysics of Abstract Painters and Performers<\/strong><br \/>\nThursday, February 1, 6 p.m., at the University Classroom Building, room 100<\/p>\n<p>Featuring <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nanettecarter.com\/\">Nanette Carter<\/a>, a woman of power who specializes in creating art and landscapes that capture the drama of human nature.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Film: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9NJj12tJzqc\">Moonlight<\/a><\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nWednesday, February 7, 6 p.m., at the University Classroom Building 100<\/p>\n<p>A chronicle of the childhood, adolescence and burgeoning adulthood of a young, African-American, gay man growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Workshop: Building Cultural Inclusion<\/strong><br \/>\nTuesday, February 13, 2 p.m., Campus Center 301<\/p>\n<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bucknell.edu\/about-bucknell\/provost\/contacts\/georgina-dodge\">Georgina Dodge<\/a>, Bucknell University.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Presentation: &ldquo;I ka w\u0101 ma mua, ka w\u0101 ma hope&rdquo; The Future Lies in the Past&#8212;Who We Were, Who We Are, Who We Want to Be<\/strong><br \/>\nFriday, February 23, 3 p.m., at the University Classroom Building 100<\/p>\n<p>Speaker: Val Kalei Kanuha, senior lecturer, Office of Field Education Assistant Dean for Field Education, School of Social Work, University of Washington.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Soul Food for Thought Caf\u00e9<\/strong><br \/>\nFriday, February 23, 11&#8211;1 p.m., Campus Center Dining Room<\/p>\n<p>Poets, spoken word artists and musicians are invited to perform featuring African American genre.<br \/>\nThose interested in participating contact <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo via <a href=\"mailto:palsuhh@hawaii.edu\">email<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Film: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qVw5RgZjBKs\">4 Little Girls<\/a><\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nWednesday, February 28, 6 p.m., at the University Classroom Building 100<\/p>\n<p>The film uses dance as its primary expressive element to depict the tragic story and aftermath of the 16th Street Baptist church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1963.<\/p>\n<p>Related activities will be held in the residence halls in collaboration with University Housing.<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo history department will feature an exhibit at the <a href=\"http:\/\/guides.library.uhh.hawaii.edu\/home\">Edwin H.
